On 29th November 2024, the association returned to the Shangri-La Hotel to host a prestigious banquet in commemoration of its 95th anniversary. Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information & National Development, Mr. Tan Kiat How, graciously accepted the invitation as the Guest of Honour and presided over the inauguration ceremony for the 60th Executive Committee.

In his address, SMS Tan emphasized that sustainability and environmental responsibility are crucial to the future of construction practices. He highlighted how embedding these principles into architectural and building practices would provide a competitive advantage. SMS Tan also referenced an energy-saving subsidy initiative introduced by Minister for National Development, Mr. Desmond Lee, earlier this year during the association’s Chinese New Year gathering. This initiative, now open for applications, encourages industry professionals to invest in energy-efficient equipment, helping to build a stronger foundation for long-term business growth.

SMS Tan took the opportunity to commend the leadership and numerous achievements of outgoing President Mr. Ng Soy Ng, who has dedicated over 30 years of service to the association. Under his leadership, the association has achieved significant milestones, including fostering stronger ties and establishing vital trade relations with China and ASEAN countries. SMS Tan expressed confidence that, under the leadership of newly elected President Mr. Lim Hong Leong, the Building Materials Suppliers’ Association would continue to reach new heights.

In his speech, President Lim Hong Leong remarked that as the association celebrates its 95th anniversary, it is not only a moment to reflect on the contributions of past leaders but also to look ahead to a promising future. He noted that the building materials and construction sectors are on the brink of transformative changes, with sustainability and environmental responsibility emerging as central priorities. Furthermore, he emphasized that digitalization, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies will be key drivers in shaping the industry’s future. He stressed the importance of equipping the workforce with the necessary skills to leverage these innovations fully.

The event was attended by approximately 400 distinguished guests and members, including prominent leaders from various industry associations. The evening was filled with camaraderie and lively discussions, as guests exchanged toasts and enjoyed the celebration. Minister Tan also made rounds to visit each table, engaging with attendees and capturing memorable photographs.

The celebration was as grand and memorable as the association’s 90th anniversary dinner held five years ago, and the reunion at Shangri-La remains an unforgettable occasion.
